Must-See Spots in Bocas del Toro

Bocas del Toro is just about as picturesque a travel destination as it gets. Think lush, green

rainforests brimming with beautiful wildlife; sandy beaches that stretch on for miles; crystalline,

aquamarine waters that jut up to pale blue skies; small towns and villages filled with colorful

colonial architecture. It truly doesn’t get any more Instagram-worthy than this luxury travel

destination.

So where do you go when you want to see the best of the best, must-see locations in Bocas del

Toro? We have a few suggestions.

Starfish Beach

There’s a reason why Starfish Beach is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one of the top spots

in all of Bocas del Toro: it’s simply that magical!

As you take to the crystal-clear waters, you’ll find yourself surrounded by vibrant orange

starfish, close enough to touch (please don’t, though!). Keep your eyes peeled for other wildlife

and marine life while you’re here, too; it’s not uncommon to spot other fish, crabs, and even a

sloth or two. When you’re finished frolicking in the water, you can find bars and restaurants nearby.

Playa Bluff

Playa Bluff is another favorite beach, prized for its golden sands and fewer crowds than what

you’ll discover at Starfish Beach. Tall palm trees line the sand and white-capped waves come up

to meet your toes as you walk the long length of this expansive shoreline. This beach is a favorite

for surfing.

Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park

This marine park covers a huge area, encompassing part of Bastimentos Island, as well as

smaller, uninhabited islands that can be visited by boat and tour. For those who really want to

take in the natural wonder of Bocas del Toro, there’s nowhere else to go. Park features include

the largest Caribbean mangrove swamp in the country, some of the Caribbean’s best coral reefs,

marine turtle nesting grounds, and a wide array of wildlife, including more than a dozen

endangered species.

Isla Carenero

This uninhabited, small island is less than a square kilometer in size, but it’s still worth a visit via

a water taxi! You can hike around the entire island in just an hour or two, and while it’s small, it

packs a lot within its borders, including an Indigenous settlement, restaurants, and bars. Plus, it’s

a great spot for water sports, including surfing, snorkeling, paddle boarding and more.
