Thinking about booking a trip to Bocas del Toro? We’ve compiled all of the need-to-know facts

about this amazing destination into one quick and easy blog post, so you can get just the basics

that you need to start planning.

How to Get to Bocas del Toro

Getting to Bocas del Toro from the United States or further away requires multiple flights. You’ll

take a flight into either San Jose, Costa Rica, or Panama City, Panama, from which point you’ll

take another flight to the Bocas del Toro airport. You can also take a bus from either city to

Bocas del Toro (though the flight option is much faster).

You can read more about the ins and outs of this process, in our guide to getting to Bocas del

Toro.

Best Time to Come to Bocas del Toro

The best time to visit Bocas del Toro will depend on whether you prefer good weather or good

travel deals.

While hurricanes aren’t common in Bocas del Toro, rain is a factor to consider in the late fall and

winter. The best season to visit for dry weather is January through April.

However, if you want a great travel deal, consider visiting during the off-season, summer

through early fall. You can also choose to visit during certain times of the year when our

famous surfing conditions are at their best, like in the winter or mid-summer.

You can read more about how to decide when to visit, in our guide to the best times to travel to

Bocas del Toro.

What to Do When You’re in Bocas del Toro

Once you’ve made it to Bocas del Toro, you’ll find that there’s a wealth of interesting things to

do and see, no matter what kind of traveler you are.

Inarguably, one of the biggest draws to the archipelago is our beaches. You’ll find many, many

beaches across the islands, all with their own unique features. Starfish Beach is known for its

large starfish population. Playa Buff is a favorite for surfing. Wizard Beach is a favorite because

it’s secluded and accessible via a rainforest hike. (Learn more by checking out our guide to the

best beaches in Bocas del Toro.)

You can also find plenty to do away from the beaches if you prefer adventures further inland.

You can go wildlife watching or hiking. You can go caving, or you can go on a high-speed ATV

tour.

Of course, Bocas del Toro’s rich culture and history cannot be overlooked. Be sure to make time

in your itinerary for visiting some of the Indigenous settlements found throughout the islands, to

learn about the archipelago’s oldest residents’ histories and ways of life. Be sure to enjoy the

local agritourism, too, and learn more about the islands’ bountiful produce and how agriculture

plays a role in our past.
